Natural vs. Synthetic Supplements

What’s the point of taking synthetic supplements if your body doesn’t absorb them?

An article on supplements in Chiropractic Economics (published in 1998) reported some alarming findings. The town of Tacoma, Wash., reported that 250,000 pounds of undigested vitamin and mineral pills, some with the brand names still readable, were pulled out of their sewers every six weeks. Salt Lake City, Utah, removes more than 150 gallons of undigested vitamin and mineral pills from their filters every month. How could this be?

It is pretty easy! Your body wasn’t meant to consume and digest the synthetic substitutes, binders and fillers in most well-known, drug store brands. These ingredients are low-grade and manufacturing processes destroy the nutritional value of these supplements by using heat. Most people can only absorb 10-20 percent of the nutrients in synthetic multi-vitamin/minerals before the tablet is wasted away. That is why many companies boost the percentage of some nutrients well above the recommended daily allowance (RDA) - sometimes to 2000% - in hopes you will absorb what you actually need.

At Priestman Wellness Center, we offer 100 percent whole food supplements and herbs so that your body can absorb them and you get the maximum value from taking them.
